DJ PHAZE, born in Trinidad & Tobago, is known to bring people to their feet with the simple drop of a needle & the smooth blend of beats. His non-conventional style & ability to seamlessly play a variety of music, is what sets him apart from your average DJ. His musical talents started at the age of 4 when he began learning to play keys by ear. By his teenage years he had mastered two more instruments. Following in the footsteps of his father who was a local DJ, PHAZE certainly was destined to be a performer.
DJ PHAZE migrated to the United States and began making his mark in the Caribbean community and College circuit, by gaining airtime with his mix spots “The Caribbean Affair” on Morgan State University’s WEAA 88.9FM, in Baltimore, Maryland. Promoters began taking notice of PHAZE’s skills & started booking him for events that were not exclusively targeted to Caribbean audiences and… The rest is history! Aside from being featured on WEAA 88.9FM, DJ PHAZE graced the airwaves on radio stations locally and in the UK including Howard University’s -WHUR 96.3 FM, University of Maryland’s, WUMC 88.1 FM in the United States, & Westside Radio 89.6 FM in London. He has performed at numerous Caribbean Festivals and Carnivals in collaboration with well-known Caribbean DJs and international performers proving that he’s equally comfortable on stage as he is in the booth.
Formerly one of the original members of the Adidas Originals “In-Store DJ Crew”, PHAZE moved on to mixing at PUMA’s flagship store in Washington, D.C.’s Georgetown area as the premier In-Store DJ. However, due to the increasing demand for his talent, PHAZE had no choice but to take a hiatus. His ability to appeal to an international audience has launched him into residencies at nationally and internationally recognized clubs in Baltimore-Washington, DC metro area.
Sharing stages with artists such as New Edition, India.Arie, Eric Roberson, Jaguar Wright and PJ Morton has been just a few of the highlights of his career. Adding to his list of credits, PHAZE, as part of the Gypsy Soul family, produced, engineered and mixed “The Ear Candy Chronicles Mixtapes” powered by Gypsy Soul & Briclyn Entertainment. The mixtapes (Vol.1 & 2) feature numerous independent artists from throughout the United States who are on the verge and noteworthy.
Keeping busy on the DJ circuit, PHAZE has been in constant rotation between Washington, DC, New York City and Atlanta. In Baltimore, he has played with the popular Jazzy Soul Collective Tour featuring Eric Roberson, Angela Johnson and Anthony David. Continuing from where he first set pace, PHAZE has mixed for The Friday Night Jazz Club on Morgan State University Radio WEAA 88.9 FM hosted by 2Tru & Drea. Not stopping there, he also held sway over the crowd at the annual African American Heritage Festival 2009 & 2010. Following the theme of festivals, PHAZE hit the bustling musical hot spot that is New York City! He was the opening act at two shows for The City Parks Foundation, one for Slick Rick; the other for Lisa Lisa of Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam. Despite his demanding schedule, he finds the time to produce his bi-weekly podcast (http://djphazecast.com), which is downloaded globally. He’s also the former Resident DJ for http://grownfolksmusic.com and http://www.musicaddikts.com; has been featured as a Soulbounce.com Mixologist… all of which are highly regarded blogs/sites in the Soul movement.
Most recently, PHAZE migrated to Germany and graced venues in Munich and surrounding cities in Bavaria. While there, he secured syndication of his radio show/mix entitled, “Soul Siesta” on Banglounge.FM. Now back in the United States, PHAZE continues his activities as a tastemaker and proliferator of good music.
