Is D’Angelo Back???

Is D’Angelo Back???

After an 11 year hiatus, Neo Soul movement pioneer, D’Angelo, is reportedly putting the wraps on his forthcoming CD tentatively titled James River, which is to be released on RCA records. James River is by far the most highly anticipated CD to date due largely in part to the success of both Brown Sugar and Voodoo. It’s been said that D’Angelo has been collaborating with Raphael Saadiq, Prince, Cee-Lo,  ?uestlove and Roy Hargrove, among others on this CD. I really wouldn’t be surprised if the CD debuts at number one.  D’Angelo’s project is slated for release late 2011 early 2012.  D’Angelo fans everywhere are excited and anxious for this masterpiece to be released. D’Angelo has also announced concert dates in Stockholm Jan 26, 2012 & Paris in January 29, 2012. Tickets on sale for the Stockholm show go on sale Friday 11/11/11 and tickets for the Paris show go on sale Saturday 11/12/11… This is Sooooo Awesome…!!!!

Rapper Actor Common Pens Memoir

He’s  widely respected in the rap game and  has also established credibility as an actor. Now the conscious rapper, Grammy Award winning emcee, known as Common Sense in his early days, has written a book that debuted on the New York Times best-sellers list. “One Day It Will All Make Sense” chronicles the life of Lonnie Rashid Lynn aka Common. The book depicts his life as a boy growing up on the streets of the South Side of Chicago to his journey to  becoming a man.   The book allows readers to explore Common’s life from his perspective. “People who know me as Common might find it hard to believe some of the things that made me Rashid,” the rap star says in a press release. “That’s partly why I’ve written this book, so that I can show myself as a man in full. That means telling some tough truths, revealing my faults and vulnerabilities. But it also means showing the true strength of my character.” It also speaks of the relationship he shared with his mother Dr. Mahalia Hines, who is quoted throughout the book.  It was her guidance that led him to be the man he is today.

“One Day It’ll All Make Sense” was released on Sept. 13, 2011 and debuted at 20th place on the New York Times best-sellers list. Musically, Common is scheduled to drop his ninth studio album, “The Dreamer, The Believer” on Nov. 22, 2011. You can follow Common on Facebook and Twitter

The Mother of Hip-Hop passes

Sylvia Robinson has been featured in commercials, movies and covered by a number of well known singers. She produced the hit “Love On A Two Way Street” by The Moments.

Later, she found success as a solo artist under the name Sylvia. The memorable, sexy and sultry single “Pillow Talk” was a R & B favorite. Robinson went on to form All Platinum Records. with her husband. The record label struggled and faced mounting debts in addition to numerous lawsuits. One night while she was in a club in Harlem, she heard a DJ, Lovebug Starski, rapping over the breaks in the songs he was spinning. She had an epiphany to record what she had heard.  Robinson, with the help of her son Joey, recruited three young rappers, Big Bank Hank, Wonder Mike and Master Gee and formed the group known today as the Sugar Hill Gang. The group recorded what is noted as the first rap song, “Rapper’s Delight.”   It was comprised of rhymes over the instrumental of Chic’s hit “Good Times.”sh< Robinson  and her husband Joe chartered Sugarhill Records to release the record.  The song was a huge success.  I sold more than 8 million copies, reached No. 4 on the R&B charts and No. 36 on Billboard’s Hot 100, spawning a movement and opportunities for other hip-hop artists.
